Sunday Feb. 14

Went to S.S., dadys car, 6 children, Kieth W. and Timmy were there. Children made Valentines. Ray went to L. Cypress about 6, I slept till 8:30, rushed to get ready for S.S. Mrs. Gilmore now Mrs. Miller, her husband and grandchild were driving around and happened to see me in the yard. Visited a while, June is in Texas. Has 3 boys. Larry Harvey, Marion Johns were arrested this week. Monday nite they stole 2 of Mr. Howells horses, cut his fence, Junks’ and Charlie Longs stole 2 saddles from Charles and rode one horse to death, a mare in foal, the other one is in bad shape. Then they broke into Ernie Keener’s stole food and a gun.

Visited Buddy Story and Velma this evening. Thought maybe if he was going to ride in the parade he could watch over the girls, but he’s not. Windy, very windy, showers and cooler tonite. Couldn't fish.


Junk refers to Henry Clay “Junk” Whaley who was born in 1913 and died in 2001. His obituary reads:

Henry Clay "Junk" Whaley Sr., 88, of Clay Whaley Road, St. Cloud, died Sunday, Aug. 5. A member of a prominent pioneer Osceola County ranching and citrus grower family, he was born in Kissimmee Park, the son of Alexander Edwin Whaley and Nancy Temperance Partin Whaley, and was a lifelong resident. He was a rancher and citrus grower. He was a charter member of the Silver Spurs Club, and was one of the original riders in the quadrille that performed at each rodeo. He was "Big Boss" of the Silver Spurs in 1954, and was chosen "Coca Cola Cowboy" in 1987. He was a member and former director of the Osceola County Farm Bureau, and was a member of the Florida Cattlemen's Association. He was a Baptist. Survivors include…
