Friday Feb. 19
Worked at Mrs. Bass $7.50. Went to library, Winn-Dixie bought another knife for my set. Girls came at 2, out early for the rodeo. Ray met them at bus stop with Destry. They rode till I got home. Sure was tired, my back and shoulders are hurting from hoeing, I guess. Ray went to K. to see his Dady but they were partying, he visited David, Tom Lysens resturant. Put $ 62.00 in bank.
The phrase, “but they were partying” almost certainly refers to Ray’s Dady and his friends drinking heavily—and likely for a long period of time. This was typically referred to as “throwing a drunk” by my mama’s relatives of the day, but I haven’t been able to find other examples of this expression. If you’ve heard this one before, share details in the comments!
